Every number has a source
No figure appears on this site unless it is recorded in a survey spreadsheet with the provider name, city, state, source URL and the date it was read.
There are no estimated prices here, no figures carried over from other websites, and no numbers produced by a language model. If we cannot source it, we do not publish it.
Sample size and collection date are always visible
Every cost page states how many prices the median is drawn from and the month those prices were collected, in the first sentence.
Where a sample is thin, the page says so rather than burying it. Where prices for a category are effectively never published, we do not claim a survey at all.
We do not give medical advice
This site publishes prices only. It does not offer diagnosis, dosing or treatment advice, and it should not be used to decide whether your animal needs care.
Every cost page carries a line reminding readers that prices vary and that they should get a written estimate from their own vet. Cost is a reason to plan and to ask questions; it is never a reason to delay care your vet says is needed.
Updating and retiring pages
A survey is re-run when its prices pass seven months old, and the page carries the date of the most recent collection.
We would rather remove a page than leave a stale figure standing. Where a page is withdrawn, the URL explains why rather than disappearing.
Corrections
When we get something wrong we fix it, say what changed, and leave the record visible.
Corrections are logged publicly on the corrections page, with the date and what was changed. We do not quietly edit figures. Report one to corrections@petpriceindex.com.
Independence
No advertiser or affiliate partner sees a page before publication or has any influence over the figures.
